March CAL- Blooming Petals Poncho- Week Three

Posted on March 19, 2018 by Lorene Eppolite | 0 Comments

Hello friends and welcome back to the Blooming Petals Poncho CAL. Last week we made the back of the poncho and crocheted the first shoulder. This week we are adding the second shoulder, completing the neck opening and finishing the front of our ponchos. Next week we will finish up with edging, finishing and blocking.

A question was raised in the Fun with Furls CAL group on fb (be sure to join if you aren't already a member), about sizing.

The sizes written in the pattern are for finished dimensions and it can seem a bit scary when you are making your poncho because it will feel very narrow, and maybe even a bit short.

But don't fret. Right now your poncho is 'bunched up' lace. The lace is not opened to its maximum beauty yet. As we add our sc edging, your lace will begin to open up and as we grow our ponchos in length, the weight of the yarn will stretch it a bit longer. Finally, once we block our garments, they will be at their shining best and will fit as written in the pattern (as long as you were able to obtain gauge prior to starting).

But just to ensure your minds, I have worked out what your measurements for width and height should be at this point.

Width
20.5 (24, 27.5)"

Height
24-25" (all sizes)

So check your work, make sure you are where you need to be, and let's get ready to finish the front of our ponchos.

We left off with one shoulder completed; if you need to refresh on where you should be, go to last weeks post.

Now we are going to complete the second (left)shoulder, chain across to create the neck opening and reattach to the first (right) shoulder and work the front of the poncho the same as you did the back.

Hey everybody! Shortly into our CALs we realized that our out-of-the-box blog comment system wouldn't let us reply to your comments.

We've since installed Disqus, above, which allows you guys to respond to each other and us to reply to your questions; seems like a no-brainer!

We will continue to display existing comments from the old comment system on all existing blog posts. All future commenting will be done through Disqus. Enjoy!
