Knit The Rainbow

Knit the Rainbow (KtR) began after the Founder, Austin Rivers, discovered the housing disparities facing LGBTQ+ youth in New York City. Austin learned a few nonprofits were dedicated to providing housing and shelter for this community; however, he knew there was still more to be done; this is where KtR was born.

Knit the Rainbow (KtR) was founded in 2020 to help homeless LGBTQ+ youth in New York City survive the brutal winters. All of the handmade garments are made with love by volunteers across the country and placed right in the hands of those in need.

Garment Distribution

Knit the Rainbow collects hand-knit and crocheted garments from volunteers nationwide to provide thousands of garments each year. Scarves, beanies, gloves, socks, ear warmers, sweaters, and cardigans, are protection required during the harsh winter months.

Community Outreach

Knit the Rainbow's community outreach program partners with other nonprofits in NYC to provide classes, workshops, and coaching for at-risk youth so they can learn to knit and crochet, teaching sustainable living techniques like clothing design and creation.
