Caroline Langford

Hi Caroline! First, can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your crochet background? How did you learn to crochet?

My name is Caroline, I’m 34 years old, I live in California with my husband and our three amazing kids, and I’m a full-time stay-at-home mom. I learned to crochet when I was 10 years old, shortly after learning to knit. A friend taught me in her living room, and then I was off on my own journey of creating and exploring with yarn! I spent about 15 years experimenting with what I had learned from friends and figuring things out on my own before discovering the online fiber art world.

What is your driving force in crochet and creativity? What keeps you crocheting from day to day?

There’s something in my personality that thrives on productivity, so the act of creating really fulfills me. I love making beautiful and functional items for myself, my family, my friends, and to sell. I’ve always had a deep love for yarn, and the endless opportunities to try new fibers, color combinations, projects, and techniques keep me constantly inspired.

What are you best known for in crochet, and how did you settle on your creative focus?

Over the last two years, I’ve begun focusing more deeply on crochet. For about five years prior, I was blending macramé, weaving, and crochet together. Around six and a half years ago, I chose flowers as my central theme—because flowers are beautiful, and having a focus helps keep my ideas grounded even as they grow. While I do make all kinds of fun things for my kids, my business centers around floral-based designs. No matter which fiber crafts I combine, crochet is always part of the picture.

How did you decide to start incorporating embroidery into your crochet?

After five years of creating floral macraweave-style wall hangings, I began dreaming of ways to add more detail to my flowers while still working on a large scale. I also found myself craving a slower, more intentional pace. Embroidery became the perfect way to challenge myself creatively while adding richness and texture to my pieces. It allowed me to slow down and focus on each stitch, which became a rewarding shift in my process.

Do you have any advice for people who want to enrich their crochet with embroidery?

Just try it! Don’t worry about the “rules”—follow your creativity. Think of it like painting with yarn and let your stitches guide you. Embroidery is also a great way to use up your favorite yarn scraps or showcase fibers you love in a new way.

What are your favorite Furls tools to use?

I love all my Furls hooks! I started with the beautiful resin hooks and was instantly drawn to the gorgeous colors. Lately, I’ve been reaching for my metal hooks more often, and I adore my wooden hooks for larger sizes (15–20 mm). My Furls needle case is another favorite—beautiful and functional!

Thank you so much for taking time to talk to us, Caroline! We love seeing your gorgeous floral fiber art creations in our feed!
