The Remnant Collection is our latest step toward minimizing waste. Working closely with our leather artisans, these items are crafted from high-quality leather remnants from our larger product designs.

Starting with the Darcy Keychain, this rapidly growing collection breathes new life into every scrap, transforming them into beautifully functional accessories.

By repurposing these materials, we reduce waste, maximize resources, and ensure no piece goes unused. Each item in the Remnant Collection carries the same attention to quality and craftsmanship as our full-size products, just in a more mindful, sustainable form.

Our dedication to sustainability extends beyond our products to the packages they arrive in. 

We've embraced 100% recyclable or reusable packaging and continuously research ways to improve our methods. Greener practices aren’t a one-and-done, and we will not rest on our laurels.

In 2023, we eliminated any hook packaging containing foam. Your hooks still arrive to you safely but without the need to add to your household waste.

All our wood and resin accessories now ship in recyclable boxes instead of bubble wrap, and our leather will arrive in cotton dust covers. Less plastic for you, ready for gift-giving, and perfect for between-use storage!

We also ask our suppliers to send their goods to us in as little packaging as possible while keeping each product safe during transit.

Carbon Credits

Green Package Protection

Since January 2023, we have offered Route Package Protection on each order during checkout. 

When you select “Green Package Protection” at checkout, Route allocates carbon credits to thoroughly neutralize the environmental impact of shipping your package at no additional charge.

We hold our suppliers accountable by ensuring certification of Responsible Forestry Practices and working together to reduce excess packaging during shipments.

By partnering with suppliers who share our values, we ensure that the suppliers source our wood from sustainably managed forests.

PAST INITIATIVES

Many of our crochet hooks are handmade. As crafters know, this means each piece is unique! Every swirl will be nuanced, each artisan will have their preferred technique, and each piece of wood will carry its growth story through its woodgrain.

In the past, some resin and Odyssey hooks varied more than expected from our standard, leading us to offer “Seconds” or “Misfits” at discounted prices. This initiative reduced waste and supported sustainable crafting.

However, through ongoing collaboration with our resin manufacturer, we have refined our processes to ensure a more consistent aesthetic, making this program no longer necessary.

While we no longer offer these discounted hooks, our commitment to sustainability continues through initiatives like the Remnant Collection, One Tree Planted, and our use of recyclable packaging.
