March Ami CAL- Denis the Bunny- Week Two

Posted by Lorene Eppolite on

Welcome to Week Two of the March Ami CAL for Denis the Bunny. Last week we released the supply list and giveaway. This week is Part One of the pattern.

Grab your Odyssey hook and Scheepjes Merino Soft yarn and let the fun begin! It’s Carolina Guzman from One and Two Company, and this week we are going to make the head of our Easter bunny. I love making amigurumi heads because I think that here is the biggest opportunity for adding personality. So let’s go! Remember that you can see the supplies for this CAL on the Furls Crochet blog HERE.

PATTERN PART ONE

Bunny Head
You must stuff this part little by little as you crochet it, making the process easier.

This part is worked continuously. You should use a stitch marker. With white yarn create a Magic Ring with 6 sc.

Round 1: inc 6 times (12 sts).
Round 2: * 1 sc in next sc, inc in next sc * repeat 6 times (18 sts).
Round 3: * 1 sc in next 2 sc, inc in next sc * repeat 6 times (24 sts).
Round 4: * 1 sc in next sc, inc in next sc, 1 sc in next 2 sc * repeat 6 times (30 sts).
Round 5: * 1 sc in next 4 sc, inc in next sc * repeat 6 times (36 sts).
Round 6: * 1 sc in next 2 sc, inc in next sc, 1 sc in next 3 sc * repeat 6 times (42 sts).
Round 7: * 1 sc in next 6 sc, inc in next sc * repeat 6 times (48 sts).
Round 8: * 1 sc in next 3 sc, inc in next sc, 1 sc in next 4 sc * repeat 6 times (54 sts).
Round 9: 1 sc in each sc (54 sts).
Round 10: * 1 sc in next 8 sc, inc in next sc * repeat 6 times (60 sts).
Round 11: 1 sc in each sc (60 sts).
Round 12: * 1 sc in next 4 sc, inc in next sc, 1 sc in next 5 sc * repeat 6 times (66 sts).
Round 13-24: 1 sc in each sc (66 sts, 12 rounds in total).

Now you must make and sew the ears. To learn how to make them, please see the explanation below.

It’s time to add the eyes. I used amigurumi safety eyes for this pattern. Place them centered, between rounds 18 and 19. For your reference the eyes have a distance of 2 sts between them.

Note: If you don’t want to use amigurumi safety eyes, you can make the eyes with stitches. With black yarn make several stitches for each eye. Place them in round 19. For your reference the eyes have a distance of 2 sts between them.

To make the nose, with light pink yarn do several horizontal stitches (2 sts in length). Place them centered, between rounds 20 and 21. Then make a long stitch down, 3 sts in length. Fasten off.

Round 25: * 1 sc in next 4 sc, dec, 1 sc in next 5 sc * repeat 6 times (60 sts).
Round 26: * 1 sc in next 8 sc, dec * repeat 6 times (54 sts).
Round 27: * 1 sc in next 3 sc, dec, 1 sc in next 4 sc * repeat 6 times (48 sts).
Round 28: * 1 sc in next 6 sc, dec * repeat 6 times (42 sts).
Round 29: * 1 sc in next 2 sc, dec, 1 sc in next 3 sc * repeat 6 times (36 sts).
Round 30: * 1 sc in next 4 sc, dec * repeat 6 times (30 sts).
Round 31: * 1 sc in next sc, dec, 1 sc in next 2 sc * repeat 6 times (24 sts).
Round 32: * 1 sc in next 2 sc, dec * repeat 6 times (18 sts). Fasten off.

Bunny Ear
(make 2)
This part is worked continuously. You should use a stitch marker. With white yarn create a Magic Ring with 6 sc.

Round 1: 1 sc in each sc (6 sts).
Round 2: inc 6 times (12 sts).
Round 3: 1 sc in each sc (12 sts).
Round 4: * 1 sc in next sc, inc in next sc * repeat 6 times (18 sts).
Round 5: 1 sc in each sc (18 sts).
Round 6: * 1 sc in next 2 sc, inc in next sc * repeat 6 times (24 sts).
Round 7-14: 1 sc in each sc (24 sts, 8 rounds in total).
Round 15: * 1 sc in next 6 sc, dec * repeat 3 times (21 sts).
Round 16: 1 sc in each sc (21 sts).
Round 17: * 1 sc in next 2 sc, dec, 1 sc in next 3 sc * repeat 3 times (18 sts).
Round 18: 1 sc in each sc (18 sts).
Round 19: * 1 sc in next 4 sc, dec * repeat 3 times (15 sts).
Round 20: 1 sc in each sc (15 sts).
Round 21: * 1 sc in next sc, dec, 1 sc in next 2 sc * repeat 3 times (12 sts).
Round 22-24: 1 sc in each sc (12 sts, 3 rounds in total).

Flatten the ear and sew the open edges closed. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing that piece later.

Now sew the ears on the head. Place them centered, between rounds 3 and 7. For your reference, the ears have a distance of 6 sts between them. Fasten off.

This completes the first portion of our Denis the Bunny CAL. Tune back in next week for the next clue!
