This adorable free crochet pattern is perfect for giving a sweet treat to the people in your life with a handmade touch. Choose your favorite “flavors” (we went with strawberry and vanilla!) and hold two strands of worsted weight yarn together with a size K hook for a quick and cuddly project that’s sure to melt hearts.

Then, as a bonus, there's a solo ice cream cone in chocolate to round out this group of adorable amigurumi!

National Ice Cream Day is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of July.

 Big scoops!

Woohoo! We're so excited to share the adorable pattern for these huggable mommy-and-baby ice cream cone amigurumi! We chose picked strawberry and vanilla because we're partial to those flavors, but feel free to represent your own favorites!

To achieve the larger size with less fuss, we'll be holding two strands of worsted weight yarn together and using a size K/6.50mm Furls Streamline Metal hook.

Furls Streamline Metal crochet hooks - our choice for amigurumi

SUPPLIES

We used one Red Heart Jumbo skein per color so I could divide them into two yarn cakes for holding the yarn double.

  • Two skeins/yarn cakes each of worsted weight yarn in pink, white and tan
  • Furls Streamline Metal Crochet Hook size 6.50mm
  • Two sets of size 10mm black plastic snap-in eyes
  • Stuffing (lots. I mean LOTS of stuffing)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Black scrap yarn for embroidery details

To achieve the larger size of this design with less overall work, we'll be holding two strands of worsted weight yarn together and using a size K hook. Make sure the tension is the same for both strands of yarn as you go!

Put the plastic eyes in between rounds 19-18 of the scoop, spaced about 5 stitches apart.

Using black scrap yarn, embroider a small smile centered between the eyes, as pictured.

If making this project for a nursery, we recommend embroidering all facial details to prevent small parts from becoming a choking hazard.

FO, leaving a long tail to sew the baby scoop to the top of the mama scoop.

Put the plastic eyes in between rounds 14-15 of the scoop, spaced about 4 stitches apart. On our sample, we placed the eyes a little crooked to give the little scoop a playful, lopsided appearance.

Using black scrap yarn, embroider a small smile centered between the eyes, as pictured.

If making this project for a nursery, we recommend embroidering all facial details to prevent small parts from becoming a choking hazard.

Next, we're finishing our ice creams with a single cone!

Amigurumi Ice Cream Cone

Try holding an off-white and light tan together to make your cone look more like a waffle cone!

FO and weave in the ends

STUFF the cone firmly. Using the ends from the scoop, thread your yarn needle (both strands of yarn) and whipstitch the last round of the cone to the BLO of the last round of the scoop (beneath the scallops). The scoop is only 4 stitches less than the cone, so the two match up almost stitch-for-stitch.

Add more stuffing as necessary while you’re sewing. Weave in the ends.

Make sure the stuffing is firm before closing up the hole.

Weave in all remaining ends, and you're finished!
